  Environment
This chapter intends to familiarize you with Kalipso environment. Although we’ll try to guide you through the environment, the best way to know it it’s by trying yourself.


Kalipso Main Screen
Kalipso Designer environment can be divided in 6 parts: the "File" Menu, the Ribbon, the Project Tree, the Style tab, the Design Area and the Status Bar.


"File" Menu

  
 
The "File" Menu gives you access to Designer related features:
  • New Project
 - 
Creates an empty Project.
  •  New Project (Wizard)
 - 
Launches a wizard to create a new Project. It guides you through the process of connecting to a Database and allows you to create automatic Forms.
  •  Open Project
 - 
Opens a recent Project or lets you browse your disk for one.
  •  Open Sample
 - 
Opens a Kalipso Sample.
  •  Save Project
 - 
Saves current Project.
  •  Save Project as...
 - 
Saves a copy of current Project into a new one.
  •  Close Project
 - 
Closes current Project.
  •  Devices
 - 
Allows to edit a list of Devices that can be associated with the Project to determine Form's size and other details.
  •  Themes
 - 
Allows to edit the Themes. A Theme is a set of styles that can be applied to Project visual elements.
  •  Settings
 - 
Allows to edit Kalipso's settings.
  •  User Guide
 - 
Opens Kalipso's User Guide. Provides access to the online User Guide also.
  •  About
 - 
Displays information about Kalipso's Version and license. Provides access to updates checking.
  •  Close Kalipso
 - 
Closes the Designer.


Ribbon Bar



The Ribbon Bar provides access to all Kalipso features related to your Project.

  •  HOME
 - 
Provides access to all common tasks related to the development of a Project.
  •  EDIT
 - 
Provides access to all edition features related with Forms, Reports and Controls. The displayed features depend on being editing a Form or a Report.
Provides access to "Find" feature.
  •  PROJECT
 - 
Provides access to all Project objects and features, as well to Translation tools.
  •  DEPLOY
 - 
Provides access to Test and Deployment of your Project to several platforms. It also gives access to launch MIS Communicator.


HOME



The HOME tab gives you access to most common features that your Project needs. It's also the best way for you to add graphical objects (Controls) to your Project. You can add a Control to your Project simply by clicking on it or by dragging it onto a Form or Report.

  • Database
 - 
This is where you can define to which database your application connects to.

  • Comms
 - 
Communication Profiles are used to access the Database on the Server, either in online mode or synchronization. This is where you can define them.
  • Variables
 - 
Gives you access to edit your Project's Global Variables.
  • Project
 - 
Opens current Project's properties.
  • Form
 - 
Opens current selected Form's properties.
  • Control
 - 
Opens current selected Control's properties.
  • Test on PC
 - 
Allows you to debug your Project on Kalipso's Simulator or to launch your app locally if running on Windows 10.
  • Test on Device
 - 
Allows you to deploy your Project to an USB attached Android, Windows Mobile or Windows CE device.


PROJECT



  •  Folder
 - 
Opens File Explorer on Project's Folder.
  •  Folder on Simulator
 - 
Opens File Explorer on Project's Folder on Simulator.
  •  Print
 - 
Prints Project's Documentation. A PDF file containing all information regarding the Project. On some PDF readers, the search function doesn't work correctly.
  •  Cleanup Files
 - 
Opens a tool to clean up unused Project Files like Images and other resources.
  •  Automatic Backups
 - 
Lets you manage your Project's Automatic Backups. You can restore or delete Automatic Backups.
  •  User Backups
 - 
Lets you manage the Backups you've made of the Project.
  •  Multi Language
 - 
Gives you access to Multi Language Strings that you can use in your Project.
  •  Translate
 - 
Opens a tool to translate current Project or to select a Labels file to translate. Online translation is available.
  •  Export Multi Lang
 - 
Allows you to export all of your current Project's Multi Language content into a Kalipso or Excel format.
  •  Import Multi Lang
 - 
Allows you to import Multi Language content from a Kalipso or Excel format into current Project.


DEPLOY



  •  Test on Simulator
 - 
Allows you to debug your Project on Kalipso's Simulator.
  •  Test on Wnidows 10
 - 
Allows you to launch your app locally if running on Windows 10
  •  Test on Windows
 - 
Allows you to deploy your Project to an USB attached Windows Mobile or Windows CE device.
  •  Test on Android
 - 
Allows you to deploy your Project to an USB attached Android device. 
  •  Create Executable
 - 
Allows you to create your app's executable for Windows Mobile, Windows CE or Desktop.
  •  Create Folder
 - 
Allows you to create a deployed folder of your application, ready to paste on a Windows Mobile, Windows CE or Desktop device.
  •  Create APK
 - 
Allows you to create your application's Android installation package.
  •  Create IPA
 - 
Allows you to create your application's iOS package generation scripts folder.
  •  Create Update
 - 
Allows you to create your application's update file which can be used to dynamically update the app on the device in runtime.
  •  Create Component
 - 
Allows you to create a Component, which is a file that can be linked to another Project to provide access to the selected features.
  •  Launch MIS
 - 
Opens MIS Communicator.


Project Tree




 
The Project Tree shows you the elements of your project. It shows you both graphical (Controls) and non graphical objects (Database, Global Action Sets, etc). Right Click on a item to check out the available features.


Style Tab




The Style Tab gives you access to current Project's Theme and all others. You can drag objects from them onto a Form to create a similar object, or press CTRL during drop operation to apply the selected style.

Icons Tab




The Icons Tab gives you access to current Project's Icon set and all others. You can drag Icons from them onto a Form or Control to add or change the current image.

Libraries Tab




The Libraries Tab gives you access to Controls or Forms previously added to the selected Library. You can create a new Library by clicking in the "+" Icon. To add Controls or Form to a Library you can right-click and select the "Add to Library Option".

Design Area




On the Design Area you have the ability of graphically compose your Project. Basically you just have to move the Controls around holding the left button of your mouse, or resize them using the resizing handles of the selected Control. As you’ll find out furthermore, you can arrange your Controls using the keyboard. Please explore this area by right clicking a Control or a Form to see what you can do with it.


Status Bar




The Status Bar of Kalipso Designer shows you information about the selected Form or Report (Name) and Control (Name, Position, Size and Plane). At the right of the Status Bar, you have access to the Planes of the currently selected Form, to the Project's Languages and licensing. You’ll see “Demo Version” if you don’t have a valid license, “Standard Version” if you have a valid Standard Version license, "Professional Version" if you have a valid Professional Version license, or “TTS+ASR” you have a valid Kalipso Voice license. If your have an online license, you can log in, log out or even change your password.
